The Road Ahead Empty
PostSubject: The Road Ahead   The Road Ahead EmptyTue Jun 11, 2013 9:02 pm

"Big changes are always part of being in Open Beta. We want to make a great game for you and that requires lots of fine-tuning. In the coming months we are tentatively planning a series of adjustments to XP, earnings and prices.

Starting June 12th we will reduce the amount of XP needed to level up. This will not affect your current level, but will allow you to level up faster beyond that point. More high-level players means finding matches faster, having equal access to top-tier gear as well as increasing the need for teamwork.

Next we plan to adjust the RP economy, based on the new XP curve. This plan currently includes changes affecting the daily win bonus and amount of RP awarded every round. These adjustments are important to maintaining economic stability and keeping GRO balanced as well as making sure that new players don’t have an added advantage over veterans.

The final phase will affect the RP, GC prices in line with the RP earnings changes. This step is necessary for us to complete the entire rebalancing cycle.

We want to be straightforward and transparent because we appreciate your trust and faith in us. We will release more details as we get closer to the next phase. These changes enable us to make improvements, design kick-ass content and bring us one step closer to fully launching GRO."

-From the GRO website.

What do you guys think? I quite like the sound of levelling up faster (means I don't have to spend as long playing Assault :3), but because I'm an idiot (or maybe my full stomach is affecting my brain), I'm not sure if changed RP gain and prices means increased or decreased. Or maybe it really isn't very clear, in which case yay, I'm not stupid ^^

Of course, there's a fairly good chance that these changes will have been made by the time you read this...

PostSubject: Re: The Road Ahead   The Road Ahead EmptyTue Jun 11, 2013 11:58 pm

im reading this but i aint understanding it.
less xp req check
however are they planning to give us more or less rp?

also i am not sure if this is a good idea or not, some might not care but for some the road to the top is the most importent one. i mean, the battles i slamed my fist into the table and finaly getting my sr-25. i dont think this gun would be as importent for me if i did not have to fight for it,
on the other side, i hate waching the lvl for my spec rise so slllllloooooowly. and when i finaly reach the goal there is nothing in there for me.

I'm not sure if they're giving us more or less RP, although I'll find out soon, current rate is approximately 10 RP/minute of gameplay, shouldn't be too difficult to compare. Same with prices.

It's true that it's nice to have a challenge to get your new gun, but I also think another downside would be that players with less experience can reach level 30 sooner. So that means the matchmaking will try (okay, I think it's trying to do this already but still) to put less experienced players against more experienced players, on the grounds that they're all level 30. If you blaze to level 30 in a month, you aren't going to have as much as experience as the guy who spent two months reaching level 30, are you?

The Road Ahead Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Road Ahead   The Road Ahead EmptyWed Jun 12, 2013 7:13 pm

Ok, so I see their point in balancing the GC prices as they change the RP income and prices, and I also see why they have to balance RP income (both from daily challenges as well as regular "per-minute-income", however it may work) as they change the, as they call it, "XP curve".

What I do not understand is why they would mess around with the XP curve. Nearing the levelcap, I think I can say with some experience that the time it takes to level up is quite fine the way it is, or maybe (especially if you have a 50% boost) too fast. As in (apart from the fact that the boosters are bullcrap from the start) I wouldn't mind if it had even taken longer to get where I am now.
When I have reached level 30, and maybe when I have completed the achievements ("Master Assault Rifle", "Assault Qualification XVIII",...), then I will have, in an "early-2000's single-player way of thinking", I will have "beaten the game". What will then keep me playing are 2 things, I reckon. 1), you guys are playing too and it's great fun to go out with you, and 2) there exist players better than me. That's probably it. I am not sure if that is strong enough to keep people playing on the long run.

By implementing the changes proposed, and thus making it easier (or so it would seem) to reach the aforementioned state, devs (or managers, or whatever) are, in my predicition, making it easier, more likely, to become tired of the game quicker, and then quit altogether, and sooner.
Say, in 2 months, a person newly discovers this game. He or she levels to about level 10 in a few days, then buys a boost, and reaches level 30 before the month has passed. Then he or she will think, "uh. Well that was easy." and having beaten the foremost challenge, will drop the game and move on to another, more challenging, fascinating, captivating game.

Another thing I predict is that as soon as these changes are implemented, there will be two "classes", or more exactely, "castes" of players. Namely, those who finished level 30 before June 12th ("the hard way", or something to that effect, is what they will probably say), and the "pussies that were too noob" to finish "before it all got nerfed", also known as everyone who was not a well-known high-level player before June 12th 2013.

I predict this because, well, I don't like it but that is what I do think, and what I think I will think about players that get to level 30 "the easy way" (even though I may be one of them, looking at today's date - I am "only lvl 28.5" as of now, oh noes).
Now I am normally not a person easily enraged, especially not by video games, and if I am I try to keep it for myself (and not yell "HAX" at people in the match chat, or the like). But I can easily see myself, in a few weeks' time, envying and despising other fellow level 30 players, musing to myself, "he probably only ever got to this level because they 'fixed' the XP curve". My point is, if I, as a civilized, post-puberty person, say or think this, what will angry 12-year-old rage kids do?
This is probably not fair, but noone ever said the human brain works rational, did they?

Oh bollocks. I didn't even intend to write this whole bloody essay... Wink

I hate to add to your fears Nast, but it is really quite easy to level now- the requirements to level up have been halved (along with your current progress through the level), and you gain RP quite a bit quicker (I think about 1.5x what it used to be? Not sure, still need to do some research into that). For example, earlier today I was halfway to level 26 on my Specialist. Less than an hour with a 25% boost, I had levelled up, and about 25% of the way to my next level (btw, the gap between level 25 was 15800 XP). Even though my boost ends today, I reckon I'm still gonna level out my Specialist within a couple of weeks. Hell, if I get through my work quick enough I might finish it by the end of Sunday...

Hey, I never normally buy boosts. I got this 25% one with the DPM box, it lasted a week and I barely got to use it because of my work Razz

New info: GC prices drop by 40%, weapon prices increase (nades will be 160 or 260 RP!!! Fuck that!) Daily win amount will become less than the current 500 RP so basically 2 impact nades are more expensive than daily win and one timed nade will be more than the challenges .... Delicious balance. Amount of RP you can get per round increases if you play heaps of rounds in a row, but still sounds like a lovely way of UBI to turn this game into a pay-to-win game, free users are now more and more at a disadvantage.

Fucking hell Ubi, I could nearly afford the MSR SD and you double the smegging price >:C
Also, what the hell are the different 'attachment types' meant to be? Am I going to have to save 7,000 RP for a 12x scope?

Ignore what I said about the MSR SD. I sold some stuff and bought it. It's great. I have thirteen kills after a match and a half. The settle time is utterly fantastic, and even the 4x scope works wonders. And the best part is that I haven't even finished upgrading it (still got to get extended mags and a bipod) Very Happy
