Some maths on the tiering system Empty
PostSubject: Some maths on the tiering system   Some maths on the tiering system EmptyThu Sep 05, 2013 6:53 pm

I did some maths, it can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ye14empwq12eqw5
Contains one .ods Spreadsheet (ain't got no money for MS Excel) - feel free to mess around with the values in the "Input" part.
Also contains one .pdf with one example from the .ods file.

Basically what I "found out", at the current RP income and ingame store pricings:

If you play 5 matches a day, which will take between 1 and 3 hours a day, you will make between 700 and 1700 RP per day.
That equals between 20k to 50k RP per month, provided you play every day.
This in turn means that it will take between 3 to 7 days of playing to unlock, i.e. buy a Tier 1 weapon. At this point, you have not bought any armor inserts, no grenades, and no attachments for your new weapon.
To buy and equip (i.e. add attachments) a Tier 7, formerly lvl30 weapon, at this pacing, you have to play between 30 and 70 days. Still no inserts, no grenades. Also, no armor/device/handgun upgrades, and no new weapons for any other class.

If you have no social life outside GR:O, don't eat, barely sleep and play 20 matches a day, thus spending between 4 and 12 hours each day playing, you will earn between 2.5k and 6.25k RP on that day. Do that for a month (if you survive) you will have made between 67k and 190k RP.
To unlock and outfit a lvl30 weapon, you will still need between 9 and 24 days, depending on your actual RP income.

However -
due to the new Tier system, this will add up for each tier - so, to unlock tier 7, even if all your matches earn you 500 RP each (which they won't), at 10 matches per day (which is 2 to 6 hours) you will still need 40 days. At 100 to 300 RP per match (more realistic), that's an average of 116 days of grinding. At only 7 matches each day (instead of 10), 155 days average (maths says between 90 and 220 days).

So, conclusion.
An average income of 1200ish RP per day sounds like sh!t at first glimpse.
So does the fact that you need 5 days of playing to unlock your first non-GI weapon - for one class.
But, on the other hand, it will "only" take 200 days (average value) to hit levelcap, i.e. Tier 7 (for one class).

What I think is amiss here is that it will only take 20-30 days to get to lvl 30 - while being "stuck" at tier 3.

So yeah. An income increase is necessary, but not as drastic as one would first think.
And the levelling system needs to be matched (at least a bit) to the tiering progress - or removed altogether.

PS. also posting this on the official forum.

*bookmarks the official forum page and waits for a shitstorm*

still tough, we are still only talking about ONE class. thats 600days to get to tire 7 with all classes IF you want to go so far, thats without grenades and inserts.
am i the only one that thinks this is insain? its like they try to strech out the games content. and realy REALY trying to get in money for those that dont want to grind. and what a grind that is.

As I said - income needs to be increased.
(Or, alternatively, RP prices need to be lowered.)

@PJ: 600 days if you only want to reach tier 7 with ONE type of weapon for each class. So you could get tier 7 sniper rifles, assault rifles and LMGs, but then still have to do another 600 days for SMGs and shotguns for each class... And if you really feel that it's necessary to do those things that Nast mentioned, ie, eating, sleeping, having a social life and generally not dying, then it will take another few hundred days to get all the handguns (not sure on the maths here, since handguns have a relatively low price compared to the primary weapons). Because fcuk you, completionists/snipers (for the record, I am a near-completionist; I will reach anywhere between 80-98%, then either fail or give up (Metroid Prime 2 being the former and Portal 2 being the latter)).

It can be made slightly easier to reach those higher tiers by selling weapons (for 5% of the buy price and not counting the price of attachments- so, 250RP for a refund on your MP5K, and you've wasted money on that open reflex sight and extended magazine, whoopy doo). However, this means that weapons will only be bought for the purposes of tiering (which is already a problem), and you end up wasting money on weapons you didn't want in the first place and whoops I just summed up the tier system.

I think you get an RP reward for levelling up. Not sure, since I haven't levelled up anything since I reached level 30 Specialist Very Happy
