Phantom 1-4x Empty
PostSubject: Phantom 1-4x   Phantom 1-4x EmptySun Apr 07, 2013 6:19 pm

I realy like my mk16sv, it comes with a 3.5x scope. i do feel sometimes i need get a little bit closer and sometimes get less zoom, so i started to save up for the phantom.
then i started to do some research on the phantom and found this
scopes
and i feel like its kinda underwelmning if that is how it looks, shuts out quite alot of battle awareness.
is it realy as bad as it seems or is it worth the money?

First of all congratulations on choosing the Mk16SV which is the second best long range assault rifle, only superseded by the AR-21 SV.

Second, (disclaimer: personal opinion, no offense anyone) the Phantom 1-4x sight is just shit.

You can't see anything left or right of it.
You can see quite little in the middle because of the barrel of your own gun.
You will try to snipe an enemy far away and will find that your sight is in 1x mode. You click your "toggle zoom mode" button. You zero in on the enemy. And you died 3 seconds ago because of being out in the open and fumbling with your scope.
You will try to shoot someone in close quarters and will find that your sight is still in 4x mode. You won't see anything. You will be shot. You will look like an idiot.

You will either revert to the Assault 3.5x or buy the SUSAT 4x scope.

I had mine on my Mk16 for about 2 hours. Then I was sick of it. Now I use the SUSAT. It's as no-nonsense as it looks. Have noticed no drawbacks yet (and I've been using it for 2 months now).
Also see here, 3rd post.

i kinda got that feel looking at the pictures.
i bought the vss at first, it was when i was very new. i tought, wow great weapon alot more damage than the original (i was looking at the stats). however the pso-1 scope was horrible and i got the vibe that the phantom was about the same. i have a SUSAT laying around tough. i might put that on.

My main tactic for making sure I have the right zoom is looking away from my cover (so I don't step out into danger) then pressing toggle zoom until I have the right zoom. Unfortunately I don't have proper experience with this scope (got it for the PP-19 SP, then realised there was too much sway to hit anything), so if I do get it there's a good chance I'll agree with you guys Razz

Can't talk about assault rifles since I have practically no experience with them but for my LMG the Phantom works very well so far. I had the same doubts as mentioned here as well because I thought it would really limit my FOV but I realized that at least for me that was not the case compared to other closed scopes (aka, all but the Reflex Open).
At least for me the problem with those other scopes is, that yes I see a lot more of the screen but when I try to hit something further away then I would focus so hard on the things in the scope that I wouldn't even look outside the scope anymore anyway wich would defeat the point of using a scope that is not as versatile. So for me it is either the Phantom for its flexibility or the Reflex Open wich I used since I started until about 3-4 days ago. So either only focus on close combat or be versatile but (potentialy) not as aware. So far the versatility works perfectly fine for me and if I wanted close combat only then I could also go for a shotgun.specialist anyway Smile

just my 2 cents

There are a lot of spots on the maps where you can aim at one spot and just about see another one. For example, Balaklava Sub Pen, you sit at the point and aim diagonally at where the enemies can come in (provided, of course, that there are no enemies on the point). You can shoot anyone that comes running in, but you also see the bridge and the alternative entry into the point just outside your scope. So if someone pops up there you can either readjust your aim to shoot them or take cover and be rather safe.

All of this of course only works when you have a reflex- or SUSAT-style scope Wink
