Hey guys, today version 0.11.0 of GRO has been announced and I wondered what you all thought of the upcoming changes:
Béta maps: Love the idea to be able to practice new maps already, also I hope we will be able to report bugs and vote for which maps which are under construction we like best and therefore which maps they should focus on.
Firing range: Although so far I've consulted you all before buying guns and therefore never had a terrible purchase, I do like the sound of this. The thing I do like about this is being able to test different scopes without having to buy a new scope and THROW AWAY THE PREVIOUS ONE.
Field Testing: sounds OP, being able to use a gun you haven't bought.
Mystery boxes: Would be good if they were just a mystery, and not based on level and giving you all sort of stuff you don't want.
What is it you want in the next GRO patch? For me the following:
Ways to play friendly matches within the clan, fighting other clanmembers.
Better matchmaking, being able to pick a map of your choice to connect to next to the current option of finding a random map.
Allowing SG you bought as assault to be used for specialist and vice versa, also goes for inter-use of handguns and allowing the weapon proficiency of one class to count for the other as well. (I'm now lvl-1 with my FiveSeveN as assault where I'm level 4 or 5 with it as recon)
And some more points I haven't got time to scrible down today.
As for the more technical changes, those regarding the weapon performance etc:
I like what they did with max sway for most guns and how they reduced the lmg auto-snipe idea and increased the damage-fall rate over distance for short and medium barrel guns.
Changes in inserts now allow for a lower max HP. This means my recon is more vulnerable where as I have a higher chance of getting one-shot kills. Mixed feelings here.
Longer time for impact nades to explode: love it! Shorter range for nades: will seriously effect maps such as Sub Pen where I often nade the enemy sniper from cover. This sure is a shame.
No more crits on forearms and calves: elbow glitching gets less effective this way but on the other hand so do shots at small cover (for instance the barriers at cherto where there's a gap between cover and floor.
Auto SR's seem a bit OP from what I read now ...

Aside from the beta maps and all, what I'm really looking forward to see is just how well the auto SR's gonna perform now. Glad I bought the SR-25
But the change I'd like to see the most would be improved matchmaking. Like a limit for each class when you're getting matched. This would stop people getting matched with teams of 5 recons and getting murdered.

thats quite some change list. Going to have to play around with it before giving it my oppinion. But from what i read there is improvment for my spec in some ways. # im glad that grenades arent long distance rain bombs on their heads kinda weapons anymore. I hate beeing grenaded from across the map. What i would like to see are seperate channel rooms for voice. Kinda like how chat works. One for whole for team and one for fireteam. # and i want the game to give ME more money. Just me tough. Let the rest of you be poor =D

While I quite like the changes in the patch (particularly the preview stuff, which I think we can all agree is wonderful), I really dislike the increases in ready time. For those who don't know, there are some CQC shotties that can be readied in 0.08 seconds, but after this patch, all shotguns will take an extra 0.3 seconds to ready. Meaning there are some shotguns that will take a whole second to fire after sprinting. Grips are also a bit useless now. I do like the sway changes though- I can hopefully countersnipe now And I like the changes to impacts. And the flinch fix. And the grenade arc (I really shouldn't be able to throw long range nades). I don't like the changes to minimum crits. I use a CQC LMG, dammit, I'm meant to be moving D:
EDIT: Actually, the more I think about it, the more and more I become nervous about this patch. It seems like the devs want to completely screw over anyone using a CQC weapon, or even anyone using a weapon with a grip. For example, my Para currently has a handling of 0.68 seconds. After the patch is will be 0.88 seconds. Many shotguns will have a ready time of 0.8 seconds, and a lot of CQC SMGs and ARs could be about 0.7 seconds. In short, I think they may have ever so slightly buggered the ready times.

well, if i recall right you are still using that 1000rpm LRM right? thats still 16 bullets a second. from what i can tell, its now even better for me to stay in cover with my mk mod 0.

Well, in fairness, you weren't exactly meant to be running in everyone's faces with it And my LMG does still do 16 shots per second...

So, did they implement this or will they implement it? Because just today I did get shot in the foot for 180 damage... and I can't find this weapon testing area...

I don't think they've given a date for the patch yet.

I imagine that the patch will be added next Wednesday, since that's when maintenance and the like is normally done.

It looks like we'll have access to patch 0.11 today. I just had to agree to new ToA, which usually means there's a major update. Let's hope we're right and that it isn't just maintenance.

Damn! I won't have time to play properly in two weeks Hopefully I'll get the time to quickly check it out soon though... I did manage to test some guns in the range today and I gotta say that it makes the decision making process a bit easier

I've just got home from school, so I still have to download the patch. Based on past experience, I reckon this is going to take a while... *sigh* Also, it doesn't help that Garry's Mod and Team Fortress 2 want to download a patch.

Hot damn - and I likely won't even be playing today - it's champions league wednesday, and you can probably guess in which city I live (hint: not the one in spain). On a side note, you may notice me playing less these days - yeah, lectures have started again, I will try to play on weekends as often as can... and I will get to the new stuff ASAP

Ah, a few of us were wondering where you've been recently Nast. Oh well, good luck with your lectures/work ^^ Also, has anyone got any suggestions on what I can do while waiting for the patch to download? Most things require an internet connection, and that'll just slow down my download... :/
Actually, I think I'll play through Portal (the first one). That's at least one hour done

Don't worry guys - I am still around I just find it difficult to spend time playing when 4 out of 7 days each week, I have to get up before 6 AM and return home after 7 PM, at that time not yet having gone for groceries or done any laundry or or or... oh well, I will get along.
As for what you can do, M$ windows used to have a built-in flipper game - I just love that one

Well, I finished Portal, but now the GRO launcher refuses to open. I click it, it comes up with a window saying 'Verifying Application' and then closes itself. I don't suppose anyone has any ideas? :/
Never mind, I fixed it, and the patch has finished

Gosh, how I love portal Anyway minor update from my side. The nerfs on armour inserts make one-shooting someone more likely, however I do miss the crits on feet and forearms, as well as the steady aim I had before this patch. The increased sway on my SR makes it nearly impossible to hit targets at a distance, let alone headshotting them. Not sure how the crit system changed for LMG's that aren't scoped but I've been hip-killed quite a lot just now, but no crits to speak off. Do let us know what you all think of the changes. PS. Still haven't played Attica Heights, only 3 rounds today since I'm busy, when time's right I'll try and find out where the sweetspots are.

I didn't get a chance to test snipers yet (busy testing the P90 I recieved to test for three matches), but I tested the MSR C in shop. I assumed the sway was from the fact it was a grip weapon, but is the sway for other weapons really noticeable? *Goes to test Sentinel*
Also, I think I may be updating some of my weapon recommendations I made previously, mostly to accomodate for these damn ready time changes.
